I made this stocking holder for $4.00, all with supplies found in the dollar section at Target! Isn’t it cute? I was able to find the stocking holder just like what you see below for $3.00, it was a little bland and I needed it to match my other stocking holders I made last year. I will be showing you how to make those stocking holders as well, so make sure you guys stay tuned for that post!
First, I stained the wood with Rustoleum Dark Walnut, I love this stain-this is my favorite color! I also used the stain that dries in 1 hour and it really does dry in 1 hour!
I do prefer using a foam brush for stain especially on little projects like this because the clean up is much easier! I don’t want to spend more time cleaning brushes than working on the project!
I waited about 5 minutes before I rubbed off the excess stain, sorry I forgot to take pictures of that step. All I used was a paper towel to remove the stain and I also let it sit on the newspaper overnight to make sure it was completey dried before I put it on my mantle.
For stain, you want to rub it off because stain is NOT like paint, the longer you leave stain on, the darker it will get, and if you don’t rub it off, you will have a big sticky tacky mess! Believe me, I’ve been guilty of that!
Next, I just added 2 of these white snowflake stickers to each side of the hook, I also found these stickers in the dollar section at Target for $1.00!
Isn’t it cute?! I found the gray faux fur stocking below at Target also in the dollar section for $3.00! I am obsessed with Target’s dollar section! What do you think? Would love to see what you guys come up with!
The red cable knit stockings were also from Target, I bought them last year for $13 each, off course I also used a coupon for those! They still have them available this year, I can’t find them available online but I was able to check the store inventory and it shows them available in store, I hope that helps!
